@mylifesatravelmovie I’ve always wanted to do this!!!

[ The non-glamorous side of influencer marketing! ] It’s actually pretty funny how many people think that my job is glamorous AF! And, although I try so hard to be completely transparent on here, I’m definitely guilty of failing to talk about the “non-fun” side of influencing enough. So, here’s a bit of BTS on what actually does on ... The work that I do is NOT easy! Going on a trip, taking photos and sharing with you guys is an absolute joy and the best part of my job. But behind every single post and great day out in the world is days and days of admin and business. For example, most creatives starting out in this industry have no idea that they need to register a business. This is legit grown up adulting! When I started I decided to apply for an ABN but then did literally nothing about tax, nothing about superannuation, had no idea what I could and couldn’t claim and, to make matters worse, I was charging clients for GST before I was even registered for GST. The shame! When I finally got an accountant I was given two options - 1) pay the government back thousands in GST or, 2) email every single client I’ve ever involved, apologise for my mistake and pay them back! Can you guess what I picked? And then there’s all the pitching, writing proposals, KPI’s, logistics and reporting. I legit spend more time on my computer than I do in a destination for any given job. And the truth is, if you have the skills and the work ethic to handle the admin side of things, you’re well ahead of the pack. Like, WELL ahead of the pack! This information either inspired you or terrified you. You’re welcome. @TheTravelBootcamp #TheTravelBootcamp

High alpine hiking in the Dolomites is made surprisingly easy thanks to the elaborate system of Rifugios strung through the mountain ranges. These mountain huts are less like huts and more like mansions with showers, three course meals, wine and beer and sometimes, even wifi. While I appreciate the idea of remote rustic cabins, I can’t deny that I love the idea of hiking for multiple days and only having to carry a few changes of clothes. I think I’m hooked. I love the Alps for the accessibility... if it’s a desirable area to explore, chances are there’s a cable car that takes you up there. Downside: it’s expensive and more crowded. Camping in the Alps, from what I can tell, is not as common or established as the USA wilderness. Most backpackers stay in the mountain huts. A lot of the areas we went to were not parks, but privately owned land. So to make sure that we were good to camp, we would talk to the nearest hut or house we could find. Sometimes paying them a bit to use their land, but more often, just getting a friendly go ahead to stay the night.

We did a double take as the ocean turned to a milky green and our boat became surrounded by highly mineralized water emerging from a volcanic hot spring. As part of this assignment’s exploration of @mainesmidcoast, our local guide Jenna took us to nonprofit Boothbay Region Land Trust’s Oak Point Farm. A stunning property, and former saltwater farm with 2,000 feet of ocean coastline and a freshwater lake, it is also deceptively forward-leaning in the example it and its staff are setting for conservation and environmental advocacy in the MidCoast region and even greater Maine. They’re doing this through solar panels on the roof of the now-restored farmhouse, a geothermal system in the lake, land management that favors a natural order, community education programs and more. As we walked the trails and talked about the importance of these, and other steps, to Maine’s future - I couldn’t help but feel hope and gratefulness. Not to mention sheer awe at how one piece of protected land could have so many gorgeous vistas and corners and spaces in which to feel at peace outdoors. Every few minutes the specific terrain seemed to change in the 32-acres that is the total preserve. For instance, the strip of land that Jenna is walking down in this photo, is sandwiched between the ocean and the lake. Fresh water and the salt of the sea both within reach. The great balance that this planet depends on.
.
The Land Trust manages many public access sites and over 30 miles of trails in the Boothbay region of the MidCoast. I hope that with continued public support they will continue to be able to do so for generations to come. #UnscriptedMaine

[ Free Tips on Pitching Work ] It’s a common misconception that the influencer industry is crowded, and there’s not enough work to go around. I think the rumor has probably been started by aspiring influencers that try to get work and fail, then assume it’s because there’s no work. On the contrary, if this happens ... it’s not them, it’s you! The reason most up and comers don’t get work is because they don’t know how to pitch. This is the literal reason. As for work, there is a shit tone of it! I’d say there are more opportunities out there now that ever before and I’m certainly turning down stacks of jobs right now due to time restraints. So, how do you pitch? I’m going to give you a couple of my best tips! .
1) Firstly, don’t just pitch once and wait for a miracle. When you are starting out you will be pitching to hundreds of potential clients, and even that might not be enough. Forget your fear of rejection, you’re about to get rejected times infinity! .
2) Don’t pitch unless you have something TO pitch. This is a massively common mistake. Do NOT email a brand and say you want to work with them and leave it open ended. They do not have the resources to identify what you can do for them, make it easy! Know your services, know your pricing and know what you can do for them! .
3) Attach a media kit for credibility and to show you’re professional. I did a post on media kits two days ago. .
4) Try to secure a face to face meeting if you can. Clients work with people they like and it’s much easier to like someone when you meet them face to face. .
5) Play a long game! There’s nothing worse than a thirsty and desperate influencer. Make connections with people out of genuine interest in them and their brand but be prepared to wait years, or forever, for that relationship to pan out into work. I literally signed off on a job today from a contact I’ve known for five years. First job with her. .
So my friends, don’t ever think there’s no work out here in travel land! There’s plenty for the right people. Happy pitching. @TheTravelBootcamp #TheTravelBootcamp

@swedishnomad Need to get myself here!

The California coast is magical, but my secret favorite part is the Lost Coast. You've got Redwoods right up against the jagged coastline, which is full of whales and seals and very few people. I feel like it's one of the state's best-kept secrets because while many drive along PCH, few make it this far north. That's why my girlfriends and I came here for a getaway - just the three of us - for an adventure in nature. We're all pretty busy women so getting to come to a place as secluded and gorgeous as the Inn at Newport Ranch, which sits on 2000 acres, is such a treat. We saw tons of seals, all curious and eyeing us as we walked along a natural rock bridge out to sea, followed by foraging for mushrooms in the Redwood forest on our ATV adventure with Otis, who then brought us to the organic garden where we picked strawberries. I loved being here with my soul sisters but imagine it's perfect for one's soulmate, too. We even had redwood trees in our room and our own jacuzzi! Hit the link in my bio to read more.

I’m so incredibly fortunate to have been invited back to do @kerwinrae ‘s recent NISI (Nail It and Scale It) event in Sydney with my Bootcamp business partners Georgia and Liz. One of my favourite things about Kerwin is his brutal honesty and lack of BS. I guess because it’s a philosophy that we also follow at our event. But here’s a massive dose of truth, which I’m going to borrow from Kerwin but put into my own words ... Where you are in life is the direct result of your own choices. You can’t blame anyone else. If you want to change you need to first believe that you can, and then f**king step up! I’m a massive subscriber to the motto, “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”. This is because I am literally uncomfortable every single day of my life. Exposing myself to discomfort makes me more resilient to it, which enables me to expose myself to even more uncomfortable things. @everchanginghorizon Amazing sight!

For the first 20 years of my life this 25 mile span of island was my entire playground. Although some people say they feel trapped, it never felt small to me.

This year, as a result of choosing to cut down on my flying by more than 50%, I got to reconnect with that idea that I don’t need to go far to get away. I’ve been spending a lot of my days working and going out for mini adventures rediscovering the same place under different conditions and light. Here are some of my favorites - sunset picnics, glassy morning dives, hikes, ebike rides and Acro lessons.
I’m loving these versatile L*space pants for beach afternoons from @backcountry. I know most of you know their brand as being a haven for technical apparel and fun adventure goodies (it is) but they also have tons of swim and casual clothes too! Free guide to getting business class upgrades
This is something I get asked about ALL THE TIME. The past few years, I switched from being miserable cramped up in coach to stretching out and enjoying all of the comforts of flying premium WITHOUT paying full fares. And it only took me 10 years to learn how. Show me the champagne! @thetravelbootcamp
.
1. Ask and you shall receive but don’t be thirsty
the days are long gone of random upgrades, that almost never happens anymore, but I can tell you just by asking about upgrades is the first start. And be careful how you ask - ask are there any opportunities for upgrades on this flight or are there upgrades available? to show that you're serious. Often there are at drastically reduced prices. I've often paid a couple hundred bucks at the check in counter for a long haul upgrade, and a few times they even just gave it to me for free for asking nicely. Boom
.
2. Dress the part ‍️
Look like a business traveler and act like a business traveler. Often airlines still have a dress code to access lounges, and if you don't look the part, your chance of an upgrade goes out the window
.
3. Build loyalty
From my experience, you have a much better chance of getting upgraded with you already have loyalty with an airline and are working towards status. For example, I'm often bumped up to business class on @emirates on full flights because I have the highest ranking status so I get picked first
.
4. Keep an eye out for last minute upgrade options 🤔
Often I get an email a few days before a flight offering a very cheap offer to upgrade which I often take depending on the trip, and some airlines, like @airnz let you bid on upgrades in advance. Often I've found the cost of an upgrade might even equal out what I would pay in extra baggage, seat select, food, lounges and internet anyways so I might as well get an upgrade and get all of that anyways
.
5. Use your miles 🤑
many of my upgrades come from strategically cashing in my miles I've saved, often from credit cards I use - Worth it!
Do you have any upgrade hacks? Share below! @thetravelbootcamp #travelhack #upgrades #theyravelbootcamp

Chasing unique angles is everything in photography. Although this one isn’t new by paragliding standards I was still pretty stoked on it when @shanedenherder showed me this small tag line & baby parachute he rigged up to hold my camera off his wing. It takes a perfect launch to not get tangled and obviously a time lapse setting to get it right. You hope that you get the tiny parachute vs camera weight just right to create enough lift. [Free Guide to Media Kits Within Post ‍️] Okay, so I’m actually working on a PDF right now that is a guide to writing a media kit. It’s a part of the goodie bag/ course notes we’re giving away at the next Bootcamp, BUT I wanted to also share some bare bones info here. Basically a media kit is a document that you would create if you’re looking to pitch work as a digital influencer, blogger or writer. It contains some obvious information, like a bio and a profile picture, but also other, less obvious info. The benefit of a media kit is that it introduces you to your potential clients in a professional, downloadable email attachment that saves you the time of telling them all about yourself and your work. It’s an awesome short cut with the benefit of making you look super professional! I can’t tell you how many influencers I know that don’t have one! Here’s what you might like to include: .
1) My media kit contains a sample of my work, including different genres of photography and destinations. I have a literal A4 page grid of thumbnail sized images to show variety. .
2) I also have a bio (written in the third person) and a clear and professional head shot. .
3) I include any work experience, media features or accolades. Remembering that when you’re starting out this list will be small, but also that it’s okay to be a little “creative” here. .
4) I have a page with analytics (screenshots) of my Instagram audience and engagement, as well as my other social media assets and reach. .
5) I have a page that lists my services! This one is super important for anyone starting out as an influencer or content creator and there is a real psychology to this! Clients do not want to tell you what they want from you! Nope. They want to know what packages you offer and the price. Make it easy to be hired. .
6) Finally, I also include a bit of a summary of my philosophy and approach to the work I do. I guess I would call this my “point of difference”. Why should a client hire you and nobody else? What special x-factor can you bring? .
I hope this helped someone? @TheTravelBootcamp #TheTravelBootcamp #TravelInfluencer #DigitalInfluencer #MediaKit #TravelBlogger
